It’s been an both an eventful month, yet also feels like not. You know, when it feels like you did a lot, but not a lot was accomplished? That was March for us, lol. The first half of the month started out with a fun bout of influenza that tornadoed it’s way through the family, which is awesome…as you can imagine. Needless to say, not a lot of photography got done, let alone anything else. However, right before that, we did manage to get out to the Sportsman show, which is a bad idea for anyone considering a RV. Naturally we walked away with a new camping travel trailer to our name, thus opening the doors wide for new family adventures all year around. This, of course, led to our first 2 maiden voyages to break it in, one with the Nelson side of the family. For this, we celebrated Ginny’s 8th birthday party camping at Kah-nee-ta and swimming in their amazing pool (heated to over 90 degrees by hot springs). The perfect little get-away in our new second home :)
Then this last weekend, the five of us ventured down to Sunriver to explore camping there. We found that we are pretty excited to be able to take an easy stay-cation for biking, swimming, and floating the river (in the summer) in one of our favorite places without having to rent a house. Oh the possibilities now!!
Anyways, for this month’s “Life from this lens” project, our theme was “black & white,” and to shoot creatively with this in mind. I found that, although I have a great appreciate for artists who really nail this aspect of photography (hello Ansel Adams!), I myself am not altogether inspired by it. I think it still eludes me what makes up a good b&w photo, and honestly I think it really shows in my work. Regardless, I have a collection of b&w shots from our month, and looking through them, some I like and some I like much better in color, but I think overall when I shoot for black & white I find that I appreciate my candid/documentary shots more this way. Less perfection and more authenticity seems to lend itself well to a b&w photo and gives it a more organic quality, which I really appreciate discovering.
Anyways, enough rambling, here are my photos. And when you are finished, please hop on over to Tracy Lynn’s page to see what she’s discovered this month. And as always, thank you for following!!
