The other day I was traveling for work. I was lucky enough to be passing
through the beautiful Oregon wine country on my way to meet students in their
clinical sites. It was one of the
most beautiful days in the sky that I’ve ever seen. The sky was spotted with great big cumulus clouds (you know,
the big white cotton-bally ones?).
In that open countryside, you could see a vast complexity of weather
happening-in some places you could see the rain streaking the sky while the sun
peaked through the broken clouds, in others, giant clouds formed complex swirls
in ominous shapes. While taking in
the beauty spread out before me, one of my favorite songs played. The words of the song reflected the
scripture of Psalm 19:1-4:
“The heavens
declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the
earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
In that moment I was overwhelmed by the truth of that Psalm
and overtaken by how the majesty of the scene in front of me revealed a small
window into the glory of God. I
spent the rest of the afternoon trying to do it a small amount of justice by
capturing it with my camera. Although I didn’t get many shots that did the job, these were just a few that I liked. They really don’t capture the magnificence of the day,
but they are still some of my most favorite images to date.
